Kai Green, Co-Editor in Chief
Kai is a senior Professional Writing major with minors in Creative Writing and Business Management. This is their third year on staff and first year as the Co-Editor in Chief of Happy Captive Magazine. Outside of Happy Captive, Kai is a student manager for Miami Catering. When they are not juggling classes, job, and extracurriculars, Kai writes about their Dungeons and Dragons character Leif and his adventures. They enjoy hiking, hammocking, playing video games, and reading fantasy novels.
Sydney is a senior Creative Writing and Literature double major with a minor in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. This is her first year as the Co-Editor in Chief of Happy Captive Magazine and her fourth year on staff. She is from South Charleston, Ohio. She is also the editorial intern for the Miami University Press. When she’s not reading for her multiple English classes, Sydney attempts to tackle her own TBR list. She also enjoys crocheting and taking long walks. After graduation, Sydney plans to pursue a career in publishing while writing novels on the side.

Emma Henderson, Business Manager
Emma is a sophomore Linguistics and Professional Writing double major with a minor in Creative Writing. While this is her second year on staff, this is her first semester as the Business Manager of Happy Captive Magazine. She is from Louisville, Kentucky. She is a member of the Honors College, the Honors Student Advisory and Activities Board, Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Fraternity, and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. Emma spends her time immersed in stories, whether she's reading, working on her own short fiction, or wandering around campus listening to her latest nostalgic audiobook.
Annabel Howe, Fiction and Poetry Editor
Annabel is a junior literature major with a rhetoric/writing minor. This is her first year as a fiction and poetry editor, and her third year working on the magazine. She is also a member of Sigma Tau Delta, serving as a Social Media/Marketing Chair. In addition to reading, Annabel enjoys bullet journaling, crocheting, and spending time with friends. After graduation, she hopes to work in publishing.
Cassell Pressnell, Fiction and Poetry Editor
Cassell is a junior Creative Writing and Psychology double major with a minor in Rhetoric and Writing. She has been a part of Happy Captive Magazine for three years and this is her first year as a Fiction & Poetry Editor. Outside of Happy Captive, Cassell is a part of the Honors Student Advisory Board and Stage Left. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, swimming, baking, and watching true crime shows.
Chelsey Pauley, Design Manager
Chelsey is a junior Studio Arts major with a co-major in Arts Management. This is her first year as design manager and second year on staff. When she has a spare moment away from classes, Chelsey likes to paint, hike, read, and workout. After graduation, Chelsey plans to attend grad school. Post-academia, her goal is to work in art galleries or museums while selling commissioned art on the side.
Gus Kirpatrick, Marketing Director
Gus is a senior Games and Simulation major. This is his second year on staff and his first year as the Marketing Director. Outside of Happy Captive Magazine, Gus is a part of Miami Game Design Club and Badminton Club. His passion is game design. He loves making games for Fortnite and it's secretly his occupation. He also is good with frogs :)
Marissa Ellis, Layout Manager
Marissa is a sophomore Computer Science Major with Minors in Rhetoric and Statistical Methods. This is her second year on staff and first year as Layout Manager for Happy Captive. Outside of Happy Captive, Marissa is a Consultant for the Howe Writing Center and a Model for Pixel Magazine. In her free time, she enjoys making silly little websites and designs, playing with her cats, and spending time with friends! After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in UI/UX Design or Web Design and travel the world.
