Cassell Presnell, Co-Editor in Chief

Cassell is a Senior Creative Writing and Psychology double major with a minor in Rhetoric & Writing. She has been a part of Happy Captive Magazine for four years! Outside of Happy Captive, Cassell is a part of the Honors Student Advisory Board and Stage Left. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and traveling. She hopes to go to law school after graduation.
Annie is a senior English Literature and Creative writing major with a minor in Classical Studies. This is her third year on staff and first year as Co-Editor in Chief. In her free time, she enjoys writing historical (and sometimes fantastical) fiction, getting an iced chai from Kofenya, and staring off into space. If you can't find her on campus, she's either beating her roommates at Mario Kart or (more likely) working at Kings Island.

Emma Henderson, Fiction and Poetry Editor
Emma is a junior Linguistics and Professional Writing double major with minors in Creative Writing and English Literature. She is from Louisville, Kentucky. This is her third year on staff; she has previously served as a reader and the Business Manager, but is excited for the chance to work as an F&P editor! Outside of Happy Captive, she is a member of the Honors College, Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Fraternity, and Phi Sigma Sigma. In her free time, she loves to read, write, run, and cross stitch. After college, she hopes to work in publishing.
Katy Sue Malt, Fiction and Poetry Editor
Katy Sue is a junior Creative Writing major. She is from Asheville, North Carolina. This is her third year on staff where she was previously a Reader. She is now excited to serve as an F&P Editor! Outside of Happy Captive, she is a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Fraternity and is a part of the MU Scrapbooking Club. In her free time she loves reading, writing, thrifting, hiking, and spending time with friends. After college, she is considering either going to graduate school or going directly into publishing.
Parker Green, Business Director

Parker Green is a sophomore English Literature and Strategic Communication double major with a minor in Political Science. When she’s not the Business Manager for Happy Captive, you can usually find her reading, giving tours around campus, writing for The Miami Student, harassing honors students for social media content, and generally dilly-dallying.
Chelsey Pauley, Design Manager
Chelsey is a senior Studio Arts major with a co-major in Arts Management. This is her second year as Design Manager and third year on staff. When she has a spare moment away from classes, Chelsey likes to paint, hike, read, and workout. After graduation, she plans to attend grad school. Post-academia, her goal is to work in art galleries or museums while selling commissioned art on the side.
Gracen Giles, Marketing Director
Gracen is a sophomore Creative & Professional Writing major with a Communication Design minor. She loves multitasking by drinking a fun beverage, watching Studio Ghibli movies, and playing Block Blast all at the same time.
Marissa Ellis, Layout Manager
Marissa is a junior Emerging Technology in Business and Design major with minors in Computer Science and Rhetoric. This is her second year as Layout Manager and my third year on staff. You’ll usually find her working at the Howe Writing Center on campus, but in her free time she enjoys coloring, writing, and getting sweet treats with friends.
Gabrielle Joseph, Event Coordinator
Gabrielle is a junior Psychology and Art Therapy co-major from Cincinnati. This is her second year on staff and first year as Event Coordinator. Gabrielle is also involved with Sigma Alpha Iota and Choraliers on campus. In her free time, Gabrielle enjoys painting, collecting records, playing Stardew Valley, and watching Jujuitsu Kaisen.
